Omgili Developers API

Filed under: News, Omgili — ran @ 6:48 pm

We are very happy to announce our developers API. The Omgili API allows you to develop applications that leverage the unique data we collect from millions of discussions across the web. The API gives developers access to the data on Omgili Reviews, Omgili Q&A, Omgili Discussions search and Omgili Buzz.

The data is accessible via simple GET request followed by a simple XML response. The API is available for non-commercial use and each user is limited to 1,000 requests per day. Please contact us if you would like that limit extended or if you would like to request any additional functionality.

You can learn more about the API by reading the documentation.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

“Real-time” search on Omgili = Omgili Stream

Filed under: News, Omgili — ran @ 12:02 pm

We are happy to release “Omgili Stream“, the only service that updates you in real-time about new discussions from boards, forums, and other discussion based platforms. Searching on “Omgili Stream” will first give you the most relevant results for your query in the past 48 hours, but will also regularly update you with the newest discussions as our crawlers discover them.

The way it works is that our many (hundreds of) crawlers continuously scan for discussions threads on tens of thousands forums and social sites. Once they find a discussion matching your query from the past 48 hours, they will update the results page in real-time with the new discussion. All you have to do is to keep the results open and be updated with the latest results. You can save the results for later reference or even Tweet them.
As mentioned, the stream is continuously updated with all the matching discussions threads we find, but you can also filter out certain types of discussions. Using the “Filter Options” you can choose to see discussions matching certain parameters such as language, minimum number of replies, or by where your query must appear in the discussion (Title, topic or replies).

Some notes about Omgili “Real-Time” vs. Twitter Real-Time search
Twitter is an amazing service with the true meaning of Real-Time search, showing you tweets as they are posted. We give the term “Real-Time Search” a more loose interpretation. “Omgili Stream” returns discussions about the same time our crawlers find them, provided that the discussion is recent enough.  That’s why you may see a “new” result from yesterday. Also, many times a discussion may span over days, so even if the discussion started a week ago, the latest post may have been from today or yesterday.

We hope you enjoy the service and use it to be updated about the now. As usual your feedback is valuable and highly appreciated. You can use our “contact us” form or reply to this blog post.

Omgili on iPhone

Filed under: News, Omgili — ran @ 10:19 am

The guys @ BluePal just released a cool iPhone application that leverages Omgili and SnappyFingers to bring answers to your iPhone. They describe it the best:

Knowledge is power. Information is liberating.” Kofi Annan.

“Information is the oxygen of the modern age.” Ronald Reagan.

I think we have something common with them. We believe in information. If a man has to learn everything through his own experience, we would still be stuck with rocks to light a fire.

FindOut is an iPhone/iPodTouch application which brings information to your fingertips wherever it is. It trawls through voluminous amounts of data out there on the Internet and matches it to your requirement. For this it makes use of two very efficient Discussion Forum and FAQ search engines, Omgili and SnappyFingers, which have made out a niche for themselves in their respective areas independently. We bring you the best of both.

The next time, you have a question or require information, about anything, opinions, debates, discussions, personal experiences, answers, solutions, etc., just post it on FindOut to really find out the power of Internet

You can download the application from Apple App Store:

Here are some screen shots from the application:

Omgili Directory – the biggest index of online communities

Filed under: News, Omgili — ran @ 3:47 pm

Hello world. It has been a while since my last post, I am sure you missed me. As the title suggests, we are releasing a new section (yes another one) on Omgili with the purpose of becoming the biggest directory of boards, forums, Q&A sites and other community based resources. We started the index and it is already populated with thousands of boards. With your help it will get bigger and become the #1 resource for locating the right community for the right user.
Discovering communities is easy either by searching, browsing the categories or clicking on the tags.  Sharing and voting is simple by registering and submitting your favorite community to the index.
Don’t forget to vote for your favorite community.
Enjoy and thanks for sharing,

Ran

Omgili Categories

Filed under: News, Omgili — ran @ 7:06 pm

We are happy to announce the addition of over 200 (228 to be exact) categories to Omgili Search. From now on you can refine your search results by targeting the results to discussions that took place under a specific category.
The ability to search by category makes it easier to search for ambiguous terms. For example, if you are looking for communities and discussions about Football Games (computer games and not the actual sport game) you could easily find them with Omgili Games. Find discussions about Cobalt the element and not the car by searching on “Omgili Chemistry“.
It is very easy to switch between categories, simple click on the Category link ot the top and choose the one you like; Omgili will automatically perform a search on the phrase you entered.
I hope you will enjoy this feature as we continue to improve your search experience.
